My Botox Journey

2 years ago / beauty / botox

My quest to a smaller face!

To be honest, I am quite apprehensive about writing this post because to most people when they know that I've had botox done, their response is often, "Why do you need botox? You're still so young."

But this is actually my greatest beauty holy grail that I can't live without.

You see, I have a really ROUND face by default. All those selfies of me here and on Instagram have been carefully curated - I'm careful with my angles, select only the can make it shots and with the abundence of photo editing apps like PhotoWonder...

See how I edited my jawline to give it a more V-shape that most girls desire?

Sometimes I forget to use my hair to hide my face and this is the result. #moonface

Or this. And this is already taken with my front camera so I am already positioning myself in the best possible angle.

But when I go for events and have photos not taken by me, I tend to get very insecure. Or videos since there's no photoshop for videos - you can see my pre-botox face in my pre-wedding video. :pensive:

I first found out about botox a year ago by my wedding makeup artist Sam Ong because I wanted to photograph better for my wedding. Basically what botox does is to relax the jaw muscles to create a slimmer face.

I've introduced this procedure to a few of my girlfriends and they too, love the results. Another option is to go for surgery and "shave" the jaw bone but I think that's too drastic.

Fast forward a year, my face has since returned to its pre-botox roundness and I really couldn't stand how I look in pictures (especially since I've cut my hair and it means a lack of hair to frame hide my face :sob:) so I made an appointment with Dr. Tyng Tan.

They are conveniently located at Ngee Ann City.

Nah, a non-edited photo with my face in its full round glory.

You can be sure that Dr Tan uses only Botox... I've heard of clinics that charge insanely low rates but it's because they use some other compatibles. You know what they say - if something is too good to be true, it probably is. Dr Tan charges a flat rate of $800 per square jaw reduction.

I have a ridiculously low threshold for pain - I've never twisted or sprained anything in my life, never cracked a knuckle and even extracted my wisdom tooth under GA because I really, really, really couldn't deal with a tooth extraction under local anesthesia lol.

But Dr Tan was super gentle and quick - the entire procedure was REALLY pain-free!

Botox is quite a low-risk procedure and hardly any complications occur but just to be sure, Dr Tan will prescribe an ointment to apply twice a day to prevent any infection.

It's been 4 weeks since my procedure (it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for maximum effect to be seen) and these are some pictures taken recently, all unedited.

This was exactly 3 weeks after, taken at Belif Singapore's event and the picture wasn't taken by me obviously. I had also heavy-handedly applied bronzer to contour my face.

My chin looking visibly sharper :v:

No makeup, no edit, no filter photo sent to the husband just before bedtime

12 October

Sent this photo to the husband and I was all :scream: :scream: :scream: at how slim that face looked! Zero edits.

small

I love how I can now selfie without restraint.

Here's a before/after comparison!

As I have a few more weeks to go before the full effects of the botox is seen, I'll update on the progress again. My quest to a smaller face!!!

Edited to Add:

I just received the following event photo from the photographer and I realised that if I smile differently (push my jaw downwards instead of towards my cheeks) coupled with the botox effect....

My beauty holy grail indeed
