Going meatless with SUFOOD from Taiwan!
To be honest, I LOVE my greens! I can have salads all day err day.
(With the exception of celery. Celery are vile-tasting evil creatures I tell you.)
BUT surprisingly to most of my friends, I don't really fancy vegetarian food (especially those in Singapore) cause it's so oily, salty, full of gluten and sooo starchy it really defeats the whole purpose of eating vegetables.
I was recently invited to a food tasting session by Taiwan’s largest vegetarian restaurant chain SUFOOD and their Italian-inspired menu looked really intriguing so I accepted the invite!
And I'm glad I did!
Located at Raffles City, SUFOOD is the first meat-free concept restaurant under WOWPRIME GROUP, the largest F&B operator in Taiwan.
I was there on a Friday night and I was surprised at how full it was! Especially for a new establishment!
At SUFOOD, they offer a set menu at $29.80++ per person and you get to pick your choice of Starter, Bread, Cider, Salad, Soup, Main, Dessert and Drink - what a mouthful!
Here's what we had!
His - Summer Salad
A colourful array of sweet potato, carrot, pepper and seasonal fruits served with Thousand Island dressing and sesame sauce.
Hers - Mushroom Salad
Button and Shiitake mushrooms with steamed broccoli and sliced cherry tomatoes glazed in a vinegar dressing.
I'm a hugeeeeee fan of mushrooms so this dish was a major score for me! I love how SWEET the mushrooms tasted with plenty of umami aroma.
Because there were two of us, we got to enjoy both the mustard and blueberry dips!
Freshly baked, home-made rosemary-infused breadsticks, served with a sweet mustard or blueberry dip.
I really like the blueberry dip! I was expecting something more jam-like but this was like fresh blueberry juice? Really yummy!
His - Root soup
Burdock root, lotus root and cashew nuts, stewed in a light vegetable broth.
This tasted like those nutritious double-boiled soup our Mothers make - so incredibly sweet and flavourful. I'm not sure how they do it without pork bones but this was so so so good. My favourite dish that night!
Hers - Cream of Pumpkin soup
A rich and creamy pureed pumpkin soup.
This was good but not as good as the root soup. Don't get me wrong, I love my pumpkin but the root soup set the expectations wayyyy high. You should totally order that!
His - Homemade Vegetable Calzone
Broccoli, mushrooms and artichoke sautéed in a fresh basil pesto sauce with parmesan cheese, folded in a doughy pizza base and baked until golden.

Hers - Macaroni Alfredo Casserole
Peppers, asparagus and oyster mushrooms served oven-baked in our signature creamy sauce and topped with grilled cherry tomatoes and a layer of melted parmesan cheese.
This was my second favourite dish that night! I like how it tasted so cheesy and creamy but yet none of that heavy jelak feeling cause of how light and fresh the vegetables were!
His - Banana Cheesecake
Banana cheesecake drizzled with blueberry sauce, accompanied with chocolate wafer roll.
Hers - Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Chocolate
Coat your vanilla ice cream in as much warm, dark chocolate fudge sauce as you wish.
I LOVE how rich the fudge was! The perfect finish to a wonderful meal.
You have a choice of hot or cold beverage and he chose the The Tropical (a revitalising mix of seasonal, tropical fruits) and I, the Passion Fruit Calamansi Tea (refreshing aromatic calamansi tea with fresh passion fruit).
I had an excellent dining experience and I can't wait to bring my in-laws here!
