Best things to do in Gold Coast

5 months ago / travel / australia / gold coast

Our Gold Coast holiday!

Starting on the Australia travels cause I'm incredibly inspired (and also cause I'm terribly missing the boy who's still Down Under!)

So..... we made it back to the Goldie recently after a two-year hiatus. You can read about our previous experience here - Double Zero and that nutella pizza is still around!

Basically we spent one weekend in Gold Coast and the rest of the weekdays at Toowoomba, this quaint little town about 2 hours away where the hubs was based for work. So here's my guide to where/ what to do (and eat!!!!) if you've got 48 hours on the Goldie!

1) EAT: Peter's Fish Market

Okay, it's not a huge wet market if that's what you're thinking BUT it serves up a good variety of cold seafood (prawns, crabs, oysters) and cooked food (fish, calamari) fried to golden perfection. I think this is as good as seafood can get (the hubs SWEARs by the freshness and quality of the red emperor fish, you can see his commentary on Facebook Live here) and a little tip, pop by Woolies or Coles to get some sauces (we chose garlic aioli - for him and good ol' tartare for me cause I'm allergic to garlic. Yes, it's a real thing!) and even a whole lemon if you want to be super prepared for the dining experience of a lifetime.

2) NightQuarter

The NightQuarter is a weekend night market where live music, food and shopping comes to life. I highly recommend you go with an empty stomach to make space for the Fat Boy burger from Longboards that comes stuffed with wagyu beef brisket, streaky bacon, fried jalapenos, crumbed cheese sticks, mixed lettuce, house made coleslaw and spicy mayo (!!!!)

Happens every Friday and Saturday.

3) Have breakfast at ELK Espresso

To be honest, this was a last minute second Google as the hubs picked me up from the airport and I was struggling to find somewhere Insta-worthy and I picked this cause, PINK PANNA COTTA. But who knew hipster food could taste this goooddddddd? The super mainstream hubs :unamused: also gave his stamp of approval on his pork belly & kale benedict!

16 Chelsea Ave, Broadbeach QLD 4218, Australia

4) Go to the beach

Because Gold Coast, Captain Obvious.

The waves are PERFECT for surfing by the way! (But not the cold, unfortunately.)

5) The Spit Pier

Drive to The Spit (there's ample parking!) and just watch people fishing, dogs running in the water and enjoy the ocean breeze in your hair.

Some moments are best savoured and not photographed.

6) Wake up at 6am to catch the sunrise

7) Drive into the sunset

8) Hit the Harbour Town factory outlets

Cotton On, Supre, Simone Perele, Forever New. SALE - these are the only words you need to know.

No photos cause I was busy shopping (duh!) but got time to take fweeling photo of my Boost juice cause... it's BOOST! Passion Mango all day err day.

147-189 Brisbane Rd, Biggera Waters QLD 4216, Australia

(Yes, there's a Brisbane Road in Gold Coast. Confused me for a second too.)

9) Take photos everywhere

Wearing 1-day Acuvue Define in Accent from Mr Lens

Rent a car, drive and just pull over by the roadside (try not to scream at your driver - in this case, the husband - when doing so) whenever you spot ANYWHERE scenic.

The light game is strong with this one.

10) Get lost and be happy

There's just this incredible energy about the Goldie that blows me away every, single, time.

Lastly, you've probably realised that we had given all the Dreamworld, Sea World and Movie World stuff a miss cause we only had a weekend. But if you're there for a week or so, then yes, you should probably check them out! Also, I had stayed at the Meriton Serviced Apartments which is our usual go-to for Gold Coast and Brisbane cause of the service, size of the rooms (or apartment, actually) and view. Wait till you see the view of the Brisbane River we got from our apartment in Brisbane!
