One of the most beautiful places I’ve been to in my life.
It’s funny how life works. When I was planning our Japan itinerary, I was very certain I wouldn’t like Kyoto and even wanted to give Arashiyama a miss (too lazy to get up early and the spa in the hotel was beckoning). But I’m just so glad that I didn’t because it’s truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to in my life.
No kidding.
Arashiyama is the romantic side of Kyoto - here, you can enjoy cool breezes by the river against a backdrop of mountains, with colors that changes with the season. Would love to visit this place again when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom!
On the way there! Zach actually captured some lovely pictures of the boy and I haha - you can see them here!
Just arrived!
On first sight, you might wonder what all the fuss is about; the main street and the area around the famous Togetsu-kyo bridge have all the makings of a classic tourist trap. But once you head up the hills to the temples hidden among the greenery, you will understand the appeal.
But not without first having the best milk ice cream ever…
Love the boy’s expression here hehe.. shooooo cute!
One of my favourite parts about Kyoto was inside the Tenryu-Ji temple - a UNESCO world heritage site.
The zen garden has been around since the 14th century and the pond is designed to have a perfect view from any spot.
This was also where Zach managed to catch another amazing series of the boy - see it here!
Coming out of the north garden of the Tenryu-ji, you will find yourself in the iconic Arashiyama bamboo grove.
Surrounded by towering bamboo trees, you’ll probably feel the temperature is several degrees cooler here.
Pretty Nui :)
And then we stumbled into this someone’s garden, where this Japanese obasan was selling freshly boiled eggs.
Just peel off the shell and eat it with a sprinkle of salt - so orgasmic! I so need to do an entire entry just about the amazing eats in Japan.
Marbles that the boy wanted to get for his magic cards game wtf.
The end!
