When you really need a quickie holiday!
Lately, all I have been thinking about is I need a REAL holiday. I know it seems like I'm always travelling (actually, it's only once a month max and mostly for work) and I generally take eons to write my blog posts... so well, you have the answer haha.
But with holidays, there is always SO MUCH planning involved, what with connecting flights and how to get from city to city... plus my friends usually fly in from Thailand and I from Singapore and trying to match our flight timings... after a while, I'm like Fk this shit. Let's just stay home and watch Channel 8. LOL.
And they say that a holiday is supposed to be rejuvenating :smirk: Of course lah, after all that stress you get from PLANNING THAT DAMN TRIP.
I have since decided that the easiest and most senang vacation I can give myself is to head across the Causeway and check myself into DoubleTree by Hilton, Johor Bahru.
No stranger to the DoubleTree by Hilton brand (we previously stayed at their Bangkok property!), I was expecting the luxurious comforts accompanied with an upscale, contemporary touch and they certainly didn't disappoint.
This newly-built hotel opened its doors in 2014 and is located in the Central Business District of JB, just 7km from the Causeway. We went in around noon and was there in less than 20 minutes from Woodlands. No jam :v:
I was REALLY looking forward to having their signature choc chip cookie!
To be honest, I'm not familiar with the geography of JB so I can't tell you if there are any good shopping or eateries nearby (though we went to the hub's favorite Meng Meng Roasted Duck the next day after checking out and it was only a 5 min' drive away!) but srsly, with the awesome dining options available at the hotel, I'll suggest you just stay in.
Makan Kitchen is the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru’s eclectic, all-day dining restaurant, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Featuring regionally inspired interior design and serving famous local specialties that are prepared right before your eyes, Makan Kitchen is a must for visitors wishing to experience some of Malaysia's finest cuisine. Start your day with a vast array of western and Asian items for breakfast and enjoy tempting Malay, Chinese, Indian and Peranakan dishes at lunch and dinner. Exciting live cooking stations and a juice bar showcase the delicious food and beverages on offer and private dining options are also available.
We tried their BEST OF MALAYSIA buffet dinner (RM88 nett per adult) and found it to be very worth the price given the wide variety, exceptional quality - given the husband's high standards - and relaxed dining atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the Malay section - assam laksa, beef rendang and freshly-grilled ayam percik
I went to bed all stuffed, but couldn't wait for brunch the next morning because...
Tosca Italian Trattoria
Located on the 13th floor of this Johor Bahru hotel and offering stunning views over the Straits of Johor, our Italian trattoria, Tosca, offers rustic Italian food prepared with contemporary flair for lunch and dinner. Sip an aperitif at the magnificent bar before dining in the restaurant's stylish interior or enjoying your meal al fresco by the sparkling poolside. Wood fired specialties and the extensive antipasto table are popular features of the restaurant. Private dining rooms are also available - ideal for a special dinner or relaxed, intimate business lunch. Bookings are recommended.
Death by Paella :scream:
Probably the greatest highlight of my stay, Tosca's Saturday Brunch (RM108 nett per adult) is pretty legendary - and I can totally see why. The pizzas (made fresh on the spot) are amazing, the pastas are perfectly al dente and don't get me started on the desserts. I highly recommend you top up that RM50 nett per pax for free-flow sparkling & still wines cause there's nothing like getting all high and happy with fine food and wine on a weekend.
DoubleTree JB is located really near LEGOLAND and an hour’s drive to Kota Tinggi Waterfall and super close to the Daiman 18 Golf Club which makes it ideal for a weekend staycation. I've suggested to the boy that we do a Malaysian road trip again soon - where we'll start with one night at the hotel (he can play his golf while I lounge by the pool and eat my cookie) then continue our drive up to Malacca for the most amazing FOOD before making our way up to KL for shopping and more food.
Sounds like a plan?
