Luxurious living right in the heart of Bangkok.
Starting on my Bangkok diaries!
Or rather, how do you chronicle visits back to the place where you spent the best years of your life?
But that's the thing about Bangkok. It's always changing, always evolving. Every other month when I return, there's always a new cafe, a new club, a new hotel...
Like the newly-established Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok located on Soi 24, right in the heart of Bangkok's business, shopping and entertainment district.
While most Singaporeans are more acquainted with the Pratunam / Siam area, I generally prefer the vibrant Sukhumvit Road for its fantastic dining and entertainment options.
Beyond the plush sheets, comfortable size of the room and indulgent toiletries, what truly captured my heart in this 1920s Italian American design hotel is the love story between well, an Italian and an American - Jay and Daisy.
Meet Jay and Daisy with an incredible story behind them and a huge penchant for travel!
This duo often makes regular appearances around the hotel to welcome guests :)
And even if they aren't present, you can spot elements of their wanderlust such as their vintage suitcases and other icons present throughout the hotel.
This was at Mondo!
Beautifully decorated in subtle earth tones, Mondo, at the Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok hotel features a combination of both high and low seating with lighting demarcating the varying atmospheres. It is the perfect place to meet with friends over a bottle of wine and enjoy a wide selection of savory food options. The menu at this popular restaurant showcases tapas dishes with influences and flavors from all over the Mediterranean and Asia. Warm and welcoming, Mondo features an open kitchen, a charcuterie and cheese tower adorned with delicious meats and cheeses as well as a bench-mounted, manually operated meat slicing machine. Dine on the outdoor deck featuring a whisky cabinet and a unique whisky tasting table. In the evening, enjoy a drink from the outdoor whisky bar.
Besides Mondo, the hotel also houses famed Italian restaurant, Scalini.
Savor traditional Italian-American favorites and indulgent comfort foods, elegantly prepared by our skilled chefs in this stylish restaurant at the Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok hotel. Chic and relaxed, with a focus on fine foods and high-quality ingredients, this restaurant has a feature staircase, a vibrant open kitchen, tempting charcuterie and extensive food and wine displays. Dine on freshly made pasta dishes or treat yourself to a delicious, rustic handmade pizza prepared in a live interactive kitchen. Local Thai and Asian specialty items can be enjoyed during both the buffet breakfast period as well as from the a la carte menu.
I had my breakfast here which was amazing with its wide variety and freshly prepared on-the-spot dishes. In fact, one of my greatest regrets from this trip was turning down dinner at Scalini due to prior work commitments. If breakfast was an indication of the restaurant's standards, I can only imagine how wonderful dinner would be.
When I wasn't busy stuffing my face, I spent most of my time soaking up the Bangkok sunshine (and well, there's indeed plenty of it) at Lapse, the hotel's sparkling rooftop infinity pool that offers breathtaking views of the city.
Which gets even prettier by nightfall...
We were also treated to a tour of the Summit on the 25th floor, which looks exactly like a New York penthouse.
With the contemporary furniture and setting, I found hard to believe that I was NOT in Manhattan.
The ideal space to host both small and medium-sized functions, I was told the Summit is often used for fashion photoshoots and engagement parties.
I can totally see why!
I want to throw a Gossip Girl themed party here! (Perhaps for my 30th coming up soon?)
Honestly, with a hotel like that, I can spend my entire day here. But if you'd like to head out, the Phrom Pong BTS Skytrain station is only 500 meters away (or 5 minutes by foot) which takes you directly to the Erawan Shrine (Four-Faced Buddha), Terminal 21, Central World, Paragon Shopping Complex and the die die must go Jatuchak weekend market on the same Sukhumvit train line.
Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok was recently awarded the 2015 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award and I think they deserve every bit of it!
I can't wait to be back... and to fulfill my desire to have dinner at Scalini
