Luxurious contemporary-chic hotel (and the best dim sum!) right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui!
I suppose when it comes to Hong Kong, the one district that truly captures the essence of Kowloon will be Tsim Sha Tsui. Synonymous with glamorous shopping arcades, street markets, cultural heritage sites and entertainment complexes, I was indeed very lucky to explore Kowloon through my stay at the luxurious, award-winning Hotel ICON.
A Hotel Unlike Any Other
Stylish and contemporary, Hotel ICON offers breathtaking public spaces, a beautiful vertical garden, grand sweeping stairs and vibrant dining spaces throughout its property. It's not hard to understand why, considering that it represents the combined efforts of Hong Kong’s most creative talents including Rocco Yim, Terence Conran, Patrick Blanc, William Lim, Tommy Li, Barney Cheng and Freeman Lau. You HAVE got to check out the China-chic Designer Suite by Vivienne Tam created by the world-renowned designer herself.
Hotel ICON’s 262 stylish rooms – including 26 suites – all feature breath-taking views of either the city or the Harbour. Beyond the chic and stylish interior design, the rooms come equipped with revolutionary technology and intelligent luxuries (they put the SMART in smart homes seriously), a complimentary well-stocked mini-bar and complimentary wired and Wi-Fi high-speed internet.
I was put up at the Club Suite!
With the sprawling space (two bathrooms! a hugeeee living room! two 40” high definition flat screen TVs!) and stunning panoramic views of Hong Kong island, I felt like Carrie Bradshaw with my very own city apartment!
(My only grouse is that I have to enjoy it all myself. Really wish that the hubs was there to see THIS PLACE.)
I can't decide which I love more - the luxurious bathroom with a deep soaking bathtub and separate walk-in rainshower or the BOSE sound dock. Or the Nespresso coffee machine.
Because of the sheer size and comfort of the space, we ended up holding many meetings and discussions through the nights in either of our suites...
To one of the most wicked views around.
All guest rooms come equipped with a complimentary smartphone that you can take out with you! This phone comes with 3G internet, unlimited local and international calls that you can use all over Hong Kong (or hotspot wifi to your own phone :P).
Yes, you read right. Unlimited international calls. (No prizes for guessing who I was calling all day err day.)
Located on the top floor of Hotel ICON, the club lounge Above & Beyond is reserved for the use of guests staying in Club Rooms and Suites where you get to enjoy...
Magnificent breakfast spreads with everything from Asian specialties to international favourites - every morning.
All-day dining continues with complimentary afternoon tea.
And complimentary cocktail hour at dusk where you can watch Hong Kong light up before your eyes.
Above & Beyond
Because what's Hong Kong without dim sum, right?
Before we came to Hong Kong, I was googling for the best dim sum spots where I came across a few websites strongly recommending Above & Beyond.
It was already in my to-eat list but what I DIDN'T realise was, it is actually in the very same hotel we were being hosted at -__-"
This fine-dining Chinese restaurant, which gained three “fork-and-spoons” in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2012 serves up pretty mean dim-sum and seasonal Cantonese cuisine with vintage wines from their private collection. There are also three private dining rooms and even a kitchen, should you wish to bring your own chef.
(But I don't think you'd need to.. because their chef is AMAZING.)
Conpoy and Crab Meat Dumpling in Superior Broth
Wok-fried King Prawn with Champagne Sauce
Crispy Taro Cake with Whole Abalone
Crispy Shrimp Rice Flour Rolls
Steamed Mushroom Dumplings with Black Truffles and Bamboo Piths
Barbecued Platter (Crispy Five Spice Sliced Angus Beef Brisket and Barbecued Goose with Plum Sauce)
I can eat their roost goose every day! And that braised whole abalone with the crispy taro cake? Simply DIVINE!
Thank you Hotel ICON for hosting us! You guys are truly the epitome of contemporary chic.
We will definitely be back! For the dim sum... and the Vivienne Tam suite perhaps ;)

This was a media stay but opinions, as always, are my own.
