The perfect place at Duxton Hill to wine & dine at 50% off!

I've always loved the Duxton Hill area - how it's in town but not quite in the midst of Orchard Road and how the entire feel of the place is so chillax and yet vibrant... it kinda feels like you're not in Singapore.

Keira was in town recently and I decided to bring her to Praelum for an evening of good food, wine and lots of tête-à-tête!

Nestled in the rip-roaring Duxton Hill enclave, Praelum offers an ever-changing 300 label wine list and 16 wines by the glass. Accompanying the international wine selection are cocktails, beers and whiskeys served up by two certified sommeliers.

I had the pleasure of meeting Joel and gosh, the wine pairing dinner he put together for us was impeccable to say the least!

Here's what we had!

We started the dinner with the Champagne De Sousa Brut Réserve Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru and this was my second favourite that night! This authentic, singular Champagne is made exclusively from Chardonnay and I LOVED its delicate aroma and vibrant freshness!

Next up, food!

Lobster bisque $12

This was really rich and you can taste the shellfish in it! Not the usual from the can kind of soup.

TARTE FLAMBÈE with crème fraîche, onions, bacon and egg $19

The best way to eat this is with your hands, which is exactly what we did. I like how the bacon was done - not too crispy so it really complements the crispy pastry and runny egg... yum!


Forgive me diet, for I have sinned.

These were paired with the 2012 La Tunella Sauvignon Blanc (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy) which is this buttery, honeyed white wine that's lightly spiced with a touch of summer flowers, acadia blossom and hints of honeysuckle.

We also had the 2013 Casa Lapostolle Chardonnay Cuvee Alexandre (Chile) and this chardonnay is my favourite wine that night! From the Casa Blanca Valley, it's aged in 100% french barrels and comes with a touch of delicate floral aromas and sweet notes of fresh tropical fruit!


Salmon loin with herb-butter wrapped in the flakiest puff pastry... I want to lick my computer screen now whilst typing this.


This my friends, is their house creation and you don't know what a food orgasm is until you've tried this. Each parcel came stuffed with herb filling, mushroom, cream cheese and tomato-basil dressing... I felt like I was floating in heaven after I took my first bite.


We moved on to the reds and we now tried the 2013 Dalrymple Pinot Noir, Tasmania. The wine is deep garnet in colour, with lifted ripe black plum aroma, hints of wild blackberry and raspberry beneath highlights of fine spices derived from the gentle grained French oak.

We also had the 2012 Groot Constantia Shiraz, ( Constantia,South Africa) which is a powerful yet elegant Shiraz with flavours of black currant, plums and raspberries combined with white pepper, black pepper and clove spices. I love how bodied this tastes!

Joel was very very attentive and recommended us a wide array of wines (they have 300 types after all!) to match every dish we were having. From champagne to whites to reds to dessert wines... everything went so well together. And before he served every bottle, he will explain to us the origin of the wine and its characteristics... I felt like I got a complimentary wine class :P

And no... I'm NOT an alcoholic.

They were a little shy when it came to desserts cause they were worried that they don't have a very big dessert selection - about 5 items on the menu.



But seriously, I don't know what they're talking about. This is easily the BEST creme brulee I've had in my life. The top was nicely caramalized and because it was such a thick serving, the insides were still cold so it's was such a delightful blend of temperatures and textures and flavours.. I can easily have two or three to myself.

And to end the meal, we had the 2012 Errazuriz Late Harvest Sauvignon (casa blanca valley, Chile). This dessert wine is a golden-hued bright straw yellow in colour. On the nose, aromas of citrus, candied apricots, and quince intermingle with subtle notes of white flowers and nuts. The palate is smooth and unctuous with enough acidity to impart freshness that runs through its persistent finish.

I had the most wonderful time - perhaps my best meal of 2015 so far - and I can't wait to be back!
