Sky Habitat by CapitaLand

4 years ago / married life / lifestyle

My take on this stunning condo at Bishan!

A few years ago, the hubs - then boyfriend, fiance, whatever - and I committed to just about the biggest purchase of our lives.

Our first home.

I actually wrote a blog post about the purchase but I never got round to publishing it because I wasn't too happy about it, in particular the location, which wasn't the most ideal.

The boy grew up in the Bartley area and I, Serangoon (our homes are like 5 min' drive apart) so our lives have always centred around this whole Serangoon / Bishan / Braddell area, its various amenities as well as its incredible accessibility to town.

(3 expressway exits on the CTE. You get from home to Ion in 15 minutes flat. Or 5 MRT stops to Orchard which is also just 15 minutes.)

Plus the schools we went to and friends we know all live in this area (and you know how much we love our house parties) so we ended up tearing down his parents' home and rebuilding it and now we all live happily together.

Now that our place has TOP-ed, we are toying with the idea of selling it and buying somewhere back in the city-fringe and Sky Habitat at Bishan is actually one of the places we're considering.

When coincidentally, the stars aligned and I was contacted by Capitaland to review the development.

Here's my take!

Inspired by Habitat 67, an architectural landmark in Montreal, Canada, Sky Habitat's designed by word-renowned Israeli/Canadian/American architect Moshe Safdie who is also the man behind our iconic Marina Bay Sands.

Sky Bridges connect the two towers on levels 14, 26 and 38 to create more open spaces and greenery

Unlike conventional condominiums in Singapore that are typically rectangular blocks fenced up with a swimming pool, Sky Habitat oozes sex appeals with its architecturally distinctive design, in particular its Sky Pool on the 38th floor, where a rooftop oasis awaits as you enjoy panoramic views spanning city to park.

From singles to couples and growing families, Sky Habitat offers apartments that complement every lifestyle.

The types of units available include:

  • 1 + 1 Bedrooms
  • 2 Bedrooms
  • 2 + 1 Bedrooms
  • 3 Bedrooms
  • 4 Bedrooms
  • Penthouse

I stayed in the 2 bedroom + study (terrace) unit which is perfect for a small family like the hubs and I. It offered versatility and flexibility in space and I like the good size of the living and dining areas.

When I was buying my own unit previously, I was told to always look out for the developer and furnishings provided before committing to our purchase. (Not kidding, a certain popular developer is known to be erm, rather shoddy in terms of its furnishing and you can expect leaks and cracks within 2 to 3 years - just Google and take a look...)

The good news is, Capitaland has a well-trusted reputation for quality furnishings and fittings. In fact, their projects have clinched a number of international and national awards such as The Interlace, The Seafront on Meyer, Urban Suites, Latitude, Citylights, RiverEdge and Varsity Park Condominium.

My mother-in-law came to take a look at the unit and she gave her Aunty stamp of approval on the flooring used and in her words, solid kitchen top, high quality wood and premium bathroom fixtures etc.

Each unit boasts a private garden or outdoor space that opens up to the sky.

I particularly love the huge extended terrace areas. Unlike conventional apartment living that can get quite claustrophobic, Sky Habitat's spacious balconies allow you to bring the outside in or to extend your internal spaces.

With your very own living space that opens to the sky, you can set up a picnic on the terrace for the family, cultivate your own herb garden, plan a romantic dinner under the stars with your significant other, have friends over and chill the night away with wine and snacks (which is exactly what we did!), or simply just to enjoy your own 'me' time with a good book and cuppa - the possibilities are endless!

You can create your own private sanctuary in the sky to provide you the perfect escape, without having to leave the comforts of home.

Besides the Sky Pool, there is also a 50m Lap Pool and Children's Pool in the development.

Sky Habitat also offers all the recreational and fitness facilities of a condominium such as a modern gym, tennis court, playground, reading / games lounge, party room, function rooms etc.

I like how the facilities can be found on the Sky Bridge levels:

  • Level 14: Karaoke Room, Party Room, Outdoor exercise area, Gym, Sky Bridge viewing deck
  • Level 26: Karaoke Room, Reading/Games Lounge, Party Room, Outdoor exercise area, screening room, function room, Sky Bridge viewing deck
  • Level 38: Rooftop lap pool

We also hosted a barbecue dinner for our friends at poolside terrace where we enjoyed a good night of steak, booze and charades.

Overall, I really like the quaint, exclusive feel of the development.

And it has the cutest dogs too haha! I spotted a Shiba inu, goldie and Alaskan Malamute in my two days there lol.

As mentioned above, location is really KEY to me.

Bishan is really one of the most desired suburban residential areas in Singapore on the fringe of the city.

At Sky Habitat, the Bishan MRT / Interchange and Junction 8 is just a short 3 min walk away (trust me, I tested it out - the first photo was taken on my iPhone when I walked out to get breakfast) alongside other malls in the area such as NEX, Ang Mo Kio Hub and Thomson Plaza.

If you drive, it's a 7-minute drive to the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and a 9-minute drive to the Central Expressway (CTE).

Additionally, the development is surrounded by extremely sought-after schools like Ai Tong School, Catholic High School, Raffles Institution (Secondary) and Raffles Junior College.

Other facilities in the area include MacRitchie Reservoir, Bishan Park, Bishan Stadium, Sports Hall and Bishan Library.

This Singapore apartment building has one of the best pools we've ever seen.
