Suncatcher from Japan

8 months ago / lifestyle

Bring a little crystal luck into your home!

I've been a little obsessed with crystals lately. Not sure if you have noticed on my Insta stories but my current wrist accessory of choice these days are crystal bangles - I have different crystals for different "purpose" and I choose which I want to wear out depending on my day's events... like if I have a very important pitch to make, I'll wear the one that's good for career luck.

Also, I think it's no secret now that my favourite country in the world is Japan. I visit the country at least twice a year (the backlog of blog posts to cover ALL my Japan travels is crazy :sob: ) but every time I'm back, I fall in love with how everything is so intricate and how much effort goes into them.

Whenever I check myself into a ryokan (this time we were at Hakone), I want to cry because of how delicate every single meal is.

So anyway, in line with my love for all Japanese, I recently found out about the Suncatcher.

Brought into Singapore by KAZU Japan, Suncatchers are made from crystals and natural stones to reflect sunlight into beautiful rainbow rays. It's the optical version of a wind chime and can be placed at various spots in your house such as by the window or in the living room or by your bedside.

What I have here is the LOTUS version which is apparently very popular amongst women cause it symbolises fertility / prosperity!

Designed in three dimensions, this simple but refined crystal glass piece makes a subtle ornamental piece to add to your home. From ancient times, lotus is seen as a sacred flower because while it is born in muddy water, it blooms nobly without getting soiled. It is hence culturally seen as a symbol of happiness, fertility, prosperity and family togetherness.

Even if you're not superstitious, it certainly makes a very interesting home ornament or gift to a friend, especially since Christmas is just around the corner. (I think it makes a good gift to wish somebody good luck rather than to give the typical shower gel-body lotion gift set, no?)

The Suncatcher retails from $28-$43 and is currently stocked at Megafash outlets including:

  • Marina Square
  • Suntec City
  • 100AM
  • Jurong Point
  • JEM
  • Tanjong Pagar Central
