What to Do When You Need to Smile Again

We can’t have a good day every day; that’s something I learned a long time ago. There will be days when you find it difficult to smile. The first thing you need to do is acknowledge that it’s okay to have a bad day. The next part is a bit more fun. Here are some of the things you can do if you’re feeling down and you need to smile again.

Go Out with Friends

Going out to meet friends is a sure-fire way of getting that good mood back, even after a rough day. Studies suggest that socializing can help you improve brain functions and trigger the release of serotonin, the very hormone that makes us feel happy and positive. The next time you have a bad day, text a few friends and share the evening having coffee and chatting.

You can also do exciting things with friends. Going for a bowling session – especially when you’ve never been bowling before – or visiting a local theme park are great ways to spend the afternoon or the evening. You’ll feel much better after a quick outing with friends.

Funny Pictures and Fluffy Videos

Nothing makes me feel better than watching a group of Shih Tzu’s play together. They’re just the cutest things in the world. Cat videos and funny pictures work just as well. Browsing through funny pictures from various sources can actually make you feel better in a matter of minutes.

Again, there’s science behind this too. Scientists believe that smiling, even faking one, triggers the brain the same way genuine laughter does. By browsing through funny pictures, you’ll start smiling – or even giggling – and you will feel better after just a few minutes.

Don’t just stop at funny pictures too. YouTube is filled with hilarious videos you can watch all day. Search for any funny subject you can think of and you’ll get hundreds of videos to watch. Some of my favorite videos usually involve dogs or men falling over. What’s yours?

A Very Good Meal

Another trick that’s worth a try is, quite simply, eating. Yes, I know it’s bad to break that diet you’ve been maintaining for a while, just because you have a bad day, but a cup of ice cream or a tasty roast chicken won’t actually do much harm. Besides, you will feel so much better after the meal.

Shopping works, too, but you need to be very careful when shopping while feeling sad. We tend to be more impulsive when we’re down so unless you can control your spending and stick to the items you can actually use, it’s best to steer clear of the mall on bad days.

Last, but not least, try cooking for a change. Prepare yourself that very good meal you’ve been craving all day. Eating something we cook ourselves is several times better than going out for dinner. This, along with the previous tips we’ve covered in the post, will definitely make you smile again, even after a very bad day.
